Graffiti Calls Reach 700
In the two weeks since the Christchurch City Councils graffiti campaign was launched nearly 700 calls have been received.
On the day of the launch 20 calls were lodged on the graffiti Hotline (0800 TAGGED or 824433) and the number of calls reached a height on April 1 when 103 were received.
Once a call is received a cleaning contractor is informed so that action can be taken within 24 hours.
Graffiti removal teams are available seven days a week.
When Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore launched the city-wide campaign on March 29 he said: "Ive one simple message to give to Christchurch taggers the party is over. Christchurch will have zero tolerance for tagging."
One interesting call was from a woman who complained that someone had tagged the front of her house and she wanted it cleaned.
The trouble was that the tagger had not used a spray can but had used his finger in the dust on the weatherboards.
