First Green Road Strip Painted
Christchurchs first green road strip, exclusively for use by buses, taxis and cycles, has been installed in Gloucester Street at the intersection with Colombo Street.
It is in the centre of the road and will cater for buses, taxis and cycles turning right into Colombo Street. Other vehicles are not permitted to turn right at this intersection.
Further green exclusive sections are planned in improvements for Colombo Street from Cathedral Square to Moorhouse Avenue that are aimed to lessen traffic congestion.
Several short green zones will enable buses, taxis and cycles priority passage along Colombo Street.
"It is a measure to give recognition and assistance to public transport and to give better guidance for motorists," says a City Council public transport planner, Andrew Hensley.
