Find it with the librarys new Catalogue
On Monday 1 May, Canterbury Public Library will introduce its new catalogue interface designed to make finding what you want in the library easier and quicker.
The new Catalogue provides internet functionality, incorporating the user-friendly features of the web to help you make the most of your library. The mouse or touch pad is used for navigation around the screen where a series of buttons present different options for a search based on author, title, subject or keyword. If the item you want is not on the shelves or is located at a different library, you can place a reserve online, and select which library you would like to collect it from. You can also check your own account to see what you have on loan or reserve.
The new Catalogue is available at all libraries in the Canterbury Public Library network, and staff will be on-hand to provide help when needed. The Catalogue can also be accessed from the librarys web site at http://library.christchurch.org.nz/, or directly at http://library.christchurch.org.nz/Catalogue/, meaning you can check the availability of an item before leaving home.
Also available from the librarys web site is access to Ebscohost an electronic resource of over 3500 magazine titles. Over 2000 of these are available for viewing on the screen, enabling you to read an article of interest or catch up with the latest issue of your favourite magazine. Library members can search Ebscohost free of charge from home. A PIN is required, which can be applied for at the library. To access Ebscohost, simply click on Catalogue from the librarys homepage, select Other Databases and choose Ebscohost. Have your library card ready, as you will be asked to enter your library card number, followed by your PIN.
The development of the librarys new Catalogue will be a continuous process with additional features such as a Maori language interface planned for the near future.
