Fendalton Library To Close
Fendalton Library will close on Saturday 10 June to prepare to move to its new premises on the corner of Jeffreys and Clyde roads.
The Christchurch City Council’s Fendalton Library-Service Centre, also incorporating a community police presence, will open on Monday 3 July. A public opening ceremony will be held at 9am, followed by an exciting week of events for all ages.
Over the next three weeks, library staff will be working to ensure that the new library is fully operational by 3 July.
"In that time we have to shelve around 70,000 books, magazines, CDs and other items, as well as get the library’s new technology up and running," says the Fendalton Community Librarian, Marion Ogier.
"A particularly exciting development is the learning centre, which will include computers with the Internet and email, plus space for group activities and individual study," she says.
The new building will also house council services, enabling customer to pay rates, renew dog licences and borrow books at the same location.
"The combined service point will offer customers maximum convenience, while retaining excellent service standards," Ms Ogier says.
The centre’s opening hours will be 9am-8pm Monday to Friday and 10am-1pm Saturday.
During the library’s closure, customers are encouraged to use other libraries in the area, the closest being at Papanui and Bishopdale.
