Deputy PM To Attend Mayors Jobs Meeting
The Deputy Prime Minister, Jim Anderton, will attend the final session of the first Mayors Taskforce for Jobs meeting in Christchurch tomorrow.
Mr Anderton, attending as the Minister of Economic and Regional Development, said today that he was interested in working in partnership with local government to create long-term, sustainable jobs. He added he was most interested in the results of the all-day meeting, to be attended by 31 mayors.
Ruth Dyson, the associate minister for Social Services and Employment, and a policy adviser from the Prime Ministers Office will also attend the final session.
A letter of support from the Minister of Social Services and Employment, Steve Maharey, will be put before meeting, which will be held most of tomorrow.
However, Mr Anderton and the mayors will be available from 3.15pm to report on the results of the meeting.
The Taskforce was formed in February on the initiative of Christchurchs Mayor, Garry Moore, with a core group of mayors from throughout New Zealand.
