Although the incidence of Aids remains low in New Zealand, vigilance and the support of agencies working in the field have to be maintained, says Christchurch Deputy Mayor, Lesley Keast.
She supported World Aids Day and said the Supercharge concert today would draw attention to the problems faced by youth, especially between the ages of 14 and 18.
She said she was pleased to see the widespread support given to the special day.
This included the Youth Council, 198 Youth Health, Youth and Cultural Development, the Family Planning Association, the Salvation Army, the Alcohol and Drug Association, the City Mission, Te Waipuna Trust, the Youth Workers’ Collective, Youthline, Te Rito Arahi, Crown Public Health, the Ettie Rout Centre, Aids Co-Ordinating Committee, the HCV Services Trust, Massive and the Rodger Wright Centre.
The Supercharge concert will start at 4pm today in Cathedral Square.
Lesley Keast says that while much had been done to alleviate problems in the field of Aids much more needed to be done and she was pleased to support that work.
