Sculptural Drinking Fountain for Centennial Pool

A glass and stainless steel drinking fountain, to be placed at the entrance to the Centennial Pool, will be erected tomorrow, Tuesday 12 December.

It is the work of Christchurch Polytechnic bachelor of design student, Pippin Wright-Stow.

The fountain - which Pippin says he designed to be both functional and sculptural - will have four pieces of glass, 3.5m high and 1.3m wide.

The 400kg of glass will require a crane to lift them into place.

The two drinking fountains, one for adults and the other for children, and its exposed pipes will be in stainless steel.

Pippin says his design reflects the colours and designs of neighbouring buildings.

The Christchurch City Council’s City Design Unit offered the commission to the Polytechnic’s design course.

NB: The glass will be only erected if the weather is suitable.
