Alls Well That Ends Well
Two elderly Christchurch City Council tenants, who moved out of their Council-owned units while road widening work took place, will get a big welcome back next week.
They went into temporary accommodation, one into a rest home and the other into a Council housing complex, while their two units were moved. But now they will soon be back in them.
The units have been moved to an adjacent section to make way for the widening of the Opawa motorway.
On Thursday 21 December a big party will be held to welcome home the two women, one of whom is 90.
A welcome-home presentation of flowers to the two women will take place at 3pm by City Councillor Sue Wells and then all the tenants at Opawa Courts at 201-203 Opawa Road will hold a barbecue.
The relocatable 10 units at Opawa Courts were built in 1979 on land designated for Opawa Road. Transit NZ has now taken part of the housing complex land for road widening at the intersection of Opawa and Garlands roads.
Two units were moved and the tenants, Mrs Bertha Davis (No.1) and Mrs McCullagh (No.2) moved out at Council expense. Now they will soon be back at Opawa Courts, which has also obtained has a new car park.
NB: Party time is 3pm on Thursday 21 December at 201-203 Opawa Road.
