Cleaning Changes At Pier
Concerns over fishing from the pier New Brighton will be dealt with in a new cleaning contract.
The New Brighton Pier Liaison Team was told this at a special meeting to consider complaints.
The Christchurch City Councils property asset officer, Grant Ancell, said concerns raised, particularly those voiced on talkback radio, would be noted when the new contract was drawn up.
The chairman, Peter Francis, said that the concerns were raised also by Councillor Gail Sheriff and had included messy, congested clutter on the pier.
Bob Ford said honorary wardens would get identification badges soon so they could be recognised by pier users.
Mr Ford said no-fishing signs could be erected for those whose English was poor.
A Council coast care supervisor, Rodney Chambers, told the meeting that there was a clear divide between those who liked fishing and those who did not.
