Civic Reception For Marathon Runners
Extreme New Zealand runners, Alan and Janette Murray-Wakelin, who are attempting to run 50 marathons in 50 days, will receive a Christchurch City Council reception on January 21.
Alan and Janette are running marathons each day of the week throughout the country to raise money and promote sporting opportunities available to people with disabilities.
The civic reception will be held in the Mayors lounge at 3pm on January 21.
The two will start their South Island segment at Picton on January 14 and end their 2000km run on February 5 in Bluff.
They left Cape Reinga on December 17 and plan to run a marathon every day until their reach Bluff.
Throughout the run in both islands, they will be promoting Paralympics NZ and are trying to raise $1 million to help send a team to the Paralympic Games in Sydney next year.
The pair is scheduled at Belfast on January 21 and to be south of Christchurch the next day. On January 23 they are due in Ashburton and Timaru on January 25.
