Christchurch to celebrate with Team New Zealand in style
Team New Zealand crew will arrive by Royal New Zealand Airforce Hercules to meet their Christchurch fans this Friday 10th March.
The Americas Cup winners will travel around the city by historic tram, ending in Cathedral Square, where Mayor Garry Moore will host a civic reception. The crew will include Sir Peter Blake, Brad Butterworth, Tom Schnackenberg, and winning helmsman Dean Barker.
Were thrilled to have Team New Zealand in the city. Says Michelle Beckett, Events Team Manager. We have been working intensively with Team New Zealand management over the last few days with the hope of making this one-off event possible, and with Christchurch Tramways Limited coming on board, we can now offer a completely unique celebratory experience to the people of Christchurch.
The Tram circuit will begin at The Arts Centre at 12 midday, and follow the Tramways route along Rolleston Avenue, turning into Armagh Street, then New Regent Street and up Worcestor Street into Cathedral Square.
Friday will be the only chance for the Christchurch public to see Team New Zealand in person, and get that rare glimpse of the Auld Mug, itll be an occasion to remember.
