Chinese TV To Film NZ Tourism And Education

A high-powered Chinese television group is coming to Christchurch at the end of this month to make films about New Zealand education and tourism.

The three-person team will come from a Government-owned television company in Guangzhou with a production crew. The company – GZCATV – is the third largest in China

Six 15-minute television programmes will be produced along with two video compact discs, each 60-minutes each. The television series will be broadcast in Guangzhou city and Guangdong province and the VCD will be sold as a combined package with a book about New Zealand education and tourism.

The series, "New Zealand – Full Contact," will be in six parts.

The first three will concentrate on scenery and tourism while the second three parts will give detailed coverage of six New Zealand universities and two high school.

The complete series will be produced as a VCD and marketed across China.

The Guangzhou television station has more than 30 million viewers alone and produces 32 programmes a year and is one of the top TV stations in China with its programmes attracting many national prizes.

Christchurch’s Mayor Garry Moore, as well as representatives of the Canterbury Development Corporation and Christchurch and Canterbury Marketing, will meet the group, on March 27. The group will film in Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington.

The Canterbury Language College is arranging the visit, and its principal, David Pepperle, says he believes it will be the first visit by a Chinese television company specially to investigate New Zealand education.

His college caters for many Chinese students.

NB: The delegation will meet the Mayor, Garry Moore, at 11am at the Civic Offices, Tuam Street, on March 27.
