Art Goes On Tour
Original works of art by leading and emerging Canterbury artists will be taken on a tour of secondary schools this year.
The project, Canterbury Art On Tour, will be launched at the Civic Offices by Christchurchs Mayor, Garry Moore, on 28 February at 5pm.
It is designed to move Canterbury artists outside their galleries to tour with their art and ideas into secondary schools.
It is a co-operative venture between the Centre of Contemporary Art and the Robert McDougall Art Gallery.
The artists taking part include Barry Cleavin, Paul Chapman, Simon Edwards, Colin Luxton, Catherine Manchester, Michael Reed, and Kate Rivers. Schools involved are Aranui High School, Linwood, Mairehau, Hornby, Kaiapoi, Hillmorton, and Catholic Grammar College.
As well as art works the seven schools the artists will provide material from their workbooks and other information to do with their work.
Also the artists will visit schools and discuss their work and ideas.
It is expected that the scheme will expand and develop to include more Christchurch schools in time.
