A Taste of Opera in Cathedral Square

Canterbury Opera Youth perform a concert version of The Happy Prince Cathedral Square, Friday 14, 12-1

Canterbury Opera Youth (COY) will perform a concert version (in costume) of The Happy Prince opera by Malcolm Williamson in Cathedral Square this Friday.

This highly acclaimed production, based on a story by Oscar Wilde, has received glowing reviews and all three recent performances at Elmwood Theatre were sold out.

The concert will begin with Director Eilish Moran, reading the story – a poignant tale of sacrifice, greed and hope. Musical director Elizabeth Emeleus will then lead the over 30 young people in COY through a concert version of the opera, featuring strong solo character performances by the Mayor, Match Girl, Swallow, Rich Girl, Seamstress, Author, Son and Prince.

Kirsty Simpson will accompany the Canterbury Opera Youth on keyboard.

This performance of The Happy Prince is part of the TILT Youth Festival
