BD Construction Ltd Committed to completion of square redevelopment work
BD Construction Ltd, today, gave an undertaking to the Square Redevelopment Project Team and to the Chair of Christchurch City Council’s Projects and Property Committee, Cr Ron Wright, that the completion of outstanding redevelopment work in the Stage 1, 2 and 3 areas, would occur this month.
Ken Weir, Managing Director of BD Construction Ltd advised, “BD Construction is committed to the completion of all outstanding physical work by the end of January. This includes the completion of the laying of paving in the Stage 3 area (northeast corner of the Square); completion of the area behind the Cathedral; completion of any remedial works and the sealing of the granite pavers.
“We have been and will continue to be in contact with affected stakeholders as we progress through the programme of work this month.”
By agreement between BD Construction Ltd and Christchurch City Council, Fulton Hogan Civil Ltd will carry out the installation of lighting base poles in the Stage 2 area (southeast corner of the Square) during January. Due to design changes, which resulted in cost savings, it was considered more efficient for Fulton Hogan to complete this section of work.
Cr Ron Wright, Chair, Projects and Property Committee, Christchurch City Council, adds,
“I have met with the Managing Director of BD Construction Ltd to ensure that the remaining work in Stages 1, 2 and 3 will be completed this month. With his assurances and the co-operation of all sub-contractors, I am confident that all parties will work to meet this deadline.”
Stage 4 work (the area in front of the Cathedral and in the southwest corner) is to commence in March. Although there has been a delay in the completion of the earlier stages this will not affect the completion of Stage 4 and the project itself which is scheduled for October 1999 as originally programmed.
