Christchurch City Council Media Release 8 February 1999

A Little Goes A Long Way.

Street parties, sausage sizzles, facepainting, balloons - the Spreydon Heathcote Community Board is celebrating Neighbourhood Week from March 1-7.

"We want to encourage people to get out into their street, have some fun, and talk to their neighbours," said Heathcote Councillor Sue Wells.

"The Community Board has put aside funds which we'll be giving out to people who are holding small events during that time. We want to hear from residents who are having Neighbourhood Week events, and see if we can provide a little bit of an incentive."

Last year's Neighbourhood Week grew over 200 new Neighbourhood Support Groups in the city.

"This is the perfect time for your Neighbourhood Support Group to get together for a social function, and with Neighbourhood Week happening as Daylight Saving ends, it's the perfect opportunity to bring people together before the nights start getting shorter."

Interested residents should contact the Beckenham Service Centre on 332-3099 by February 19.
