The Mayor Garry Moore is to present awards for actions of bravery to three Christchurch residents on Monday.
Mr Graham Andreassend and Mr Anthony Wilson are to receive their awards for their prompt action to save a woman whose car left the road and finished up in the Avon River, on 17 April 1998. In a statement from the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand it was said that "there was no doubt that she would have died if her two rescuers had not acted so promptly".
Mr Justin Gallate is to receive an award for rescuing a man from a burning sleep-out, in the small hours of 6 December 1997. A statement from the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand states - "there is no doubt that Gallates actions resulted in a life being saved at considerable risk to his own."
