Christchurch City Council Media Release 21 December 1999

Teddy bears gather for music, magic and a world record attempt.

Bears of all shapes and sizes will gather in North Hagley Park on Sunday 9 January for Christchurch’s annual Tip Top Ice Cream Teddy Bears Picnic.

Every bear that attends will be encouraged to register in Christchurch’s attempt to break the current world record for the most teddy bears at a teddy bears picnic. Once the formalities of registration are out of the way, the rest of the afternoon can be spent enjoying the entertainment and soaking up the event’s special atmosphere.

Entertainment on the main stage will include live music from Fiddlesticks & Double Trouble and the Natural Magic Pirate Band, as well as theatre from The Original Scripts and comedy with Adrian Kirk and the event’s host, Jason Gunn. Over on the Griffins stage, children and their bears will be able to enjoy story telling from The Court Jesters, a puppet show by Smiling Kidz and a magic show

While all this is going on, there will also be plenty of other activities happening elsewhere in the venue, including face painting and a variety of fun rides.

The Tip Top Ice Cream Teddy Bears Picnic takes place from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday 9 January. Car parking is available for $3 in North Hagley Park off Harper Avenue. Free, secure cycle parking is also available in the park, just inside the Armagh Street entrance.
