Police Temporarily Relocating during Stage 4, Cathedral Square Redevelopment
The construction work in Stage 4 (the area in the south west corner of the Square and in front of the Cathedral) of the Christchurch City Council's redevelopment of Cathedral Square is being undertaken in sections. Work will start late this week in the area in which the Police Kiosk is located. During construction in this area the Police will vacate the Police Kiosk, and a Police caravan will be temporarily located adjacent to the contractor's (Works Civil Construction Ltd) compound just north of the ANZ Bank's building.
"We will be maintaining the same level of presence in the Central City, with same number of Beat staff walking the beat and of course, the crime prevention cameras will be operating as usual," says Senior Sergeant Fenton Wood of the Beat Section, Cathedral Square.
" I 've been pleased with the way Works Civil Construction has been undertaking its work, keeping the area as safe as possible and working closely with us to ensure that we are away from the kiosk for the minimum amount of time."
The Police caravan will be open from 9am to 5pm daily as from today (5 May) with a return to the kiosk scheduled for July.
Pedestrian access is continually maintained with the contractors clearly defining the route for people to take.
Section 1 (just north of the ANZ Bank), of Stage 4 is scheduled for completion on 15 May. The other subsequent sections are to programme with the project on schedule for completion in October.
