New Brighton Library on the move

New Brighton Library in Shaw Street will close its doors for the last time on Saturday 10 July to shift to its new premises in the Christchurch City Council's New Brighton Pier Building.

The library will re-open on Saturday 24 July. An official opening ceremony will take place at 10am, which the public is welcome to join, followed by an exciting weekend of events for all ages.

"We have something for everyone," said Sasha Bowers, Promotions & Publications Co-ordinator for Canterbury Public Library. "A highlight is the guest appearance of Tiki from Salmonella Dub. They're doing really well in the charts at the moment and we have copies of their latest album and single to give away."

Tiki will appear on Sunday 25 July 1-2pm, and other events during the weekend include children's entertainment, a presentation from Coast Care, and a local history talk. Events' programmes are available from all libraries.

While New Brighton Library is temporarily closed, customers are encouraged to use other libraries in the Canterbury Public Library network – the closest being at Linwood.

The new library will open seven-days a week with weekend hours being 10am-4pm. Weekday hours will be 9am-6pm from March to November, and 9am-7pm from December to February.

-Ends-
