Launched today at
www.christchurchmayor.org.nz is a website where Christchurch Mayor Garry Moore goes on-line to seek direct input from residents on current issues. Although other New Zealand Council sites have a mayoral presence on their websites, this is the first site where a mayor will have an interactive forum and regularly post information to seek community views on issues facing the City. The website as it was launched today seeks input on the future of the City Centre, proposed new ward boundaries, roading reform or any other issue.
This recognises that Web users are one of Christchurchs fastest growing
communities, now at more than 50,000, and that the internet has quickly become a tool to enhance participation in community affairs.
Council launches "Quick Answers on the Internet"
Christchurch City Council today re-launched its website. The site has been changed to allow better access through improved layout and "Quick Answers" to 650 questions most commonly asked by residents. Residents can find out most things they want to know, or email for more details or a response to a question. Christchurch City was one of the first Councils in
New Zealand to begin to use the internet as a means for residents to get service and "Quick Answers" is another stage in its development. Future seeking community views activities will continue to usually have a web presence.
Informative questions like "Can I catch worms from my dog?" are answered along with "How do I address the mayor? and "How do I store LPG outside my house?
