Applications for financial assistance and loans for recreation, sporting and community organisations are now being invited by the Christchurch City Council.
Assistance is available from the Hillary Commission Local Funding Scheme, and from the Christchurch City Councils Community Development grants and community loans schemes.
The Hillary Commission community sport fund covers groups catering for active sporting activities and more passive recreational pursuits. The focus is on the development of junior sport.
In addition to the recreational groups funded by the Hillary Commission, the Council has made further funding available to provide for applications from community groups whose functions are not primarily recreational, such as welfare and social service groups. Such community organisations are, therefore, also invited to make applications for funding under the Council's Community Development Scheme.
Information evenings are being arranged to explain the funding schemes and inform groups of the guidelines.
Application forms and further details for all of the above schemes may be obtained from all local Council service centres.
Applications close on Wednesday 31 March 1999.
