Canterbury Public Library has organised an exciting programme of events for the Books and Beyond Festival – being held in Christchurch from June 4 –7.

Rangiora author Jane Buxton will present 'Stranger than fiction', which deals with writing non-fiction for children, at the Central Library on Wednesday 2 June at 7pm.

Or for something a little saucier, the library is presenting 'Let's talk about sex' – a panel discussion with Christchurch authors Jane Westaway, Norman Bilbrough and Sue McCauley who will discuss how to deal with sexual content in writing.

And for the 14^th year running, the library's legendary book sale is being held at the Christchurch Convention Centre on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 June. Books for both adults and children will be on sale at bargain prices.

"There is something for everyone," said Sasha Bowers the library's Promotions & Publications Co-ordinator. "We like to encourage people to take a different look at books and libraries – they're more than words on a page and books on shelves."

Other highlights include the chance to explore literary cyberspace at all libraries around Christchurch from 31 May – 6 June, and bedtime stories at some community libraries from 2–4 June. Details about all events can be found at your local library and in the Books & Beyond programme.
