Getting a buzz out of books
Canterbury Public Library has organised an exciting programme of events for the Books and Beyond Festival being held in Christchurch from June 4 7.
Rangiora author Jane Buxton will present 'Stranger than fiction', which deals with writing non-fiction for children, at the Central Library on Wednesday 2 June at 7pm.
Or for something a little saucier, the library is presenting 'Let's talk about sex' a panel discussion with Christchurch authors Jane Westaway, Norman Bilbrough and Sue McCauley who will discuss how to deal with sexual content in writing.
And for the 14th year running, the library's legendary book sale is being held at the Christchurch Convention Centre on Thursday 3 and Friday 4 June. Books for both adults and children will be on sale at bargain prices.
"There is something for everyone," said Sasha Bowers the library's Promotions & Publications Co-ordinator. "We like to encourage people to take a different look at books and libraries they're more than words on a page and books on shelves."
Other highlights include the chance to explore literary cyberspace at all libraries around Christchurch from 31 May 6 June, and bedtime stories at some community libraries from 24 June. Details about all events can be found at your local library and in the Books & Beyond programme.
