The Council decision on the submissions lodged to the City Plan has been delayed.
A special Council meeting set down for 12 February to consider the submissions lodged on the City Plan has been postponed to the 22 March. This will mean notification of the Council decisions to submitters and the public will occur towards the end of April.
Environmental Services Manager Jane Donaldson says the delay is disappointing but unavoidable.
The plan has to date been eight years in the making including in excess of two years spent considering over 12,000 decisions and over 20, 000 further submissions on the City Plan. A further delay of a few weeks is disappointing, but it is important that the Plan, as ultimately amended by all the decisions, is a complete and consistent document said Jane Donaldson
Getting it as right as possible now will save time and money on appeals and the need for variations and will make it easier for everyone to use and understand. On balance, a better finished product will hopefully reduce the number of possible appeals and therefore counteract the inconvenience caused by the further delay of a few weeks said Jane Donaldson.
Approximately 10, 000 copies of decisions will be mailed to people in Christchurch and throughout New Zealand, with a few being sent overseas.
