Christchurch continues to be a great place to live- residents
The 1999 Council Residents Survey shows Christchurch residents think their City is a great place to live work and play, and at 93 per cent this enthusiasm is as high as in other years.
Of those interviewed, 44 per cent said they were either satisfied or very satisfied, 49% with Christchurch as a place to live, work, live and play. 78 per cent said they felt a strong feeling of belonging, to Christchurch.
Christchurch people feel safe in their homes and neighbourhoods
Ninety-one per cent of respondents said they felt safe or very safe in their own home during the day time while 76 per cent said they felt safe or very safe in their homes after dark. 94 per cent of people feel safe in their neighborhood during the day while 63 per cent feel safe after dark.
Eighty-two per cent of people thought their standard of living was the same or better than in 1998. But health and employment continue to be issues of major concern.
The 1999 Annual Residents Survey was conducted between 20 March and 18 April 1999 by the National Research Bureau Ltd. The margin of error at the 90% confidence level is three per cent and 759 residents were asked 87 questions in face to face interviews. When comparing results from one year to the next, a difference of just over 4% is statistically significant. The survey has been run since 1991.
