Press Lunchtime Concert

featuring the Christchurch Youth Symphonic Band

12pm to 1.30pm, Friday 12 March 1999, Victoria Square

 

The final concert in the SummerTimes festival's Press Lunchtime Concert Series features a performance by the Christchurch Youth Symphonic Band on Friday 12 March in Victoria Square.

 

The band was established in 1970 to accommodate the large number of woodwind and brass players at the Christchurch School of Music. It is now one of the senior groups at the School and the South Island’s leading concert band. In 1992 the band won the Gold Award at the Pacific Area Basin Festival in Hawaii and the same award at the National Concert Band Festival in 1996, 1997 and 1998.

 

The Christchurch Youth Symphonic Band is made up of between 40 and 50 young players ranging in age from 13 to 22. The band plays a wide variety of music.
