Cathedral Square Redevelopment Completion Within Budget
The sealing of the pavers this weekend will see the completion of the construction work involved in the redevelopment of Cathedral Square.
Completion is a month later than originally scheduled due to the unseasonal rain during the winter months, particularly July, and preparations for potential presidential walkabout post the APEC conference in September. The project has been completed within the approved budget of $8.67m.
Some finishing touches will continue into December. The plaques which were uplifted from Four Ships Court have had some restoration work, been checked for accuracy of names and will be mounted on plinths which have been placed around the Four Ships Court Trees. Remedial work to the stone work around Godley statue will also be undertaken.
"I am thrilled to see the redevelopment in its completed state. Already many people are enjoying sitting around the trees to have their lunches or just to while away a few minutes. I am sure that the people of Christchurch will be proud of their new Square."

Chair, Projects and Property Committee
An official opening of the redevelopment by the Mayor, Garry Moore will take place on Tuesday 21 December.
A series of five lunchtime
concerts will take place in the Square during the week running up to Christmas.
Note: the project has included the laying of granite pavers, the installation of new
lighting (designed to create an attractive safe environment for pedestrians particularly
at night), seating and planter boxes around trees.
