MINI GOLF DESIGN FOCUSES ON NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Putt in the Park, the proposal accepted by the Christchurch City Council last week for a mini golf course in Hagley Park, incorporates a design focusing on a natural and relaxed atmosphere with emphasis on safety and the enhancement of existing natural features.
To complement the park the course will be constructed with wood, not concrete, all existing trees and shrubs on the site are to be retained and further flowers and shrubs will be added to the site. The course will not be fenced and all views of the park will remain unobstructed. A miniature Avon River is included in the proposed design to reflect features in the local area.
The proposal by Mr Stephen Godfrey is to build a mini golf course next to Victoria Lake and the bowling club in Hagley Park. The Council considered two proposals in response to a public invitation to construct and operate a mini golf course on approximately 700 square metres in north Hagley Park. The minigolf course will provide another family activity in Hagley Park, expanding opportunities for residents to enjoy the greenspaces in the City.
Further details of the proposal will be advised in January, when the Council will call for submissions. We would like to encourage Christchurch residents to have their say on the proposal through this formal process, so we can make a balanced assessment of any concerns, says Warwick Scadden, Horticultural Operations Team Leader, Christchurch City Council. While the proposal has gained Councils approval it is still dependent on it obtaining any necessary consents.
