Diverse range of
events offered
during Christchurch Festival of Dance.
Friday 25 September to Saturday 4 October 1998
The second Christchurch Festival of Dance kicks off on Friday 25 September and offers a diverse and exciting range of events across the ten day festival.
Its 40 events include workshops, masterclasses, dance parties, shows and demonstrations catering to both professional dancers and amateur enthusiasts.
Highlights of the festival include two shows by acclaimed all-male dance group Black Grace; the Blame Martha season of contemporary works by Christchurch choreographers; an intensive weekend of masterclasses for senior dancers tutored by Ou Lu, Fiona Tonkin and others; and the finale event, Full Circle, which is described as a spectacular journey in dance and features over 100 dancers.
A number of the demonstrations and have a go type events organised by Christchurch dance clubs are free or low cost and provide an opportunity for the public to experience a new style of dance in a relaxed atmosphere. The clubs which are holding the events are keen to demonstrate their particular dance style and share it with newcomers.
Christchurch Festival of Dance brochures are available from Christchurch public libraries, Council Service Centres and Ticketek outlets or by phone the Leisure Unit on 941 6422.
