N.Z. POST SUPREME AWARD WINNER VISITS CHRISTCHURCH

Paula Boock visits Christchurch on 14-15th May for a Bookgig of her award-winning and somewhat controversial novel Dare truth or promise . Boocks’ novel was the winner of the Supreme Award in the New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards last month.

The Bookgig is being organised by Canterbury Public Library and the Christchurch Drama Centre, with the support of Creative Communities.

"Bookgigs are an exciting way of promoting literature to young people", according to Bill Nagelkerke, Children’s and Young Adult Co-ordinator for Canterbury Public Library. "They combine three key ingredients which, together, add up to a stimulating interactive experience involving the author, the actors and the audience.

The actors describe the process of dramatising the work and give their response to the story. The author, comments on the production and answers students questions. The audience respond to the production and the story."

Dare truth or promise received the following review in the summer issue of Around the bookshops:

Girl meets girl. They fall in love and, as with any relationship, there are
emotional hurdles to climb, family members to consider and convince, despair
and joy. This is an energetic, warm and powerfully written story . . ."
