Christchurch City Council Media Release Thursday 11 June 1998

"CHRISTCHURCH A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE WORK AND PLAY" - 1998 Annual Residents Survey

May 30th 1998 was Victory Day for Canterbury, when the Canterbury Crusaders beat the Auckland Blues in the finals of the Super 12 rugby, and on Wednesday 3 June more than 100,000 people turned out to pay tribute to their team.

But even before this great display of pride, patriotism, and parochialism, 94% of Christchurch residents said that Christchurch is a great place to live, work and spend time, according to the 1998 Annual Survey of Residents.

Figures for the general attitude to living in Christchurch are steady in the 90’s percentages: In 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997 overall satisfaction with Christchurch was at 94%, 97%, 93% and 94% respectively.

The survey is conducted each year to gauge residents’ satisfaction levels with Council services. This year 1031 people were asked a total of 92 questions on 33 topics.
