Summer pantomime promises plenty of magic, excitement, love & adventure.
The Exciting Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor
16 January to 7 February 1998, Mona Vale
A traditional style pantomime promising plenty of magic, excitement, love and adventure is set to entertain thousands of Christchurch residents over the next few weeks.
A highlight of the Christchurch City Councils SummerTimes festival of free outdoor entertainment, The Exciting Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor begins its outdoor season at Mona Vale in Fendalton on Friday 16 January. Over the course of the season the play is expected to be seen by around 20,000 people.
The Sinbad stories have long been a favourite of children and adults alike and The Exciting Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor promises the same kind of magic with plenty of comedy, music, dance and, of course, a happy ending. The familiar pantomime dame (a male dressed as a female but with no attempt at female impersonation) and principal boy (a female dressed as a male) are joined by characters like Winnie, Capn Morgan and Mrs Shipshape who add a satirical political slant.
The Exciting Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor features a line up of top local talent including writer/director Lex Matheson, composer and musical director Bruce Goodman, choreographer Sherril Cooper and actors Kristian Lavercome, David Johnstone and Sarah Lovelady. The play is being produced for SummerTimes by The Actors Company and The Court Theatre.
The Exciting Adventures of Sinbad the Sailor is a free SummerTimes event, however donations for the cast and crew are welcome after each show. Programmes and refreshments will be available on site. Seating is not provided so those attending need to bring their own rugs and cushions. Parking is not available within Mona Vale.
