NEW YOUTH WORKERS AND ORGANISATIONS TO SIGN CONTRACTS

The new Youth Workers and their organisations, retained to address youth crime are signing their contracts tomorrow (3 February) at the offices of the Christchurch City Council.

The workers will be involved on Christchurch Streets with support from existing youth organisations. Those signing contracts are: the New Way Trust and Grant Harris; the Hoon Hay Youth Centre and Tonto Neilson, and The Waiora Trust and Ricky Ehau.

Spokesperson for the InterAgency Youth Strategy Team, Brigid Lenihan, welcomed the signing "we're pleased to have such high quality appointments both in terms of the workers and their Trusts and by next Monday they'll be working on the streets with our youth."

"These workers and their organisations are in place to keep our streets safe for everyone," she said.

The Inter-Agency Group is made up of representatives from the Christchurch City Council, Community Employment Group, the Police, CYPFS, Internal Affairs, the Safer Community Council and the Canterbury Development Corporation.

The agencies will continue to oversee this programme and work closely with the workers and their organisations while developing further initiatives.
