Biggest day of the year for all bears and their owners.
Tip Top Ice Cream Teddy Bears Picnic
Sunday 11 January, 12.00 to 4.00pm, North Hagley Park
SummerTimes festivals annual Tip Top Ice Cream Teddy Bears Picnic will once again be the biggest day of the year for all bears and their owners.
A feast of fabulous entertainment is in store at North Hagley Park on Sunday 11 January. Picnickers can enjoy music on the main stage from The Evergreens Big Band, The Garden City Big Band and The Natural Magic Pirate Band, while on the smaller Griffins stage the Court Jesters and De Larno the Magician will entertain.
As well as a diverse range of entertainment on stage, a variety of rides and activities will be available within the park. Free face painting is always a popular feature of the event, as are the merry-go-rounds, sizzler and noddy trains. Kids with a head for heights can try out a new attraction with their bears this year - a huge inflatable slide. At 25 feet high and 40 feet long, its expected to be one of the more popular attractions on the day. And if all the excitement becomes too much, the two mobile libraries will be ideal places for a quiet moment or two.
The highlight of the Tip Top Ice Cream Teddy Bears Picnic is the annual Bear Throw Up at the conclusion of the event. Bears and their owners gather near the stage and with the guidance of the MC all the bears in the park are thrown into the air at the same time creating sky full of bears and a bear scramble afterwards!
Parking is available for $3.00 within North Hagley Park by entering off Harper Ave. Gates to the parking area open at 11.00am. The Cancer Society will be at the event with free squirts of sunblock and there will be plenty of food and refreshments for sale on site, including Tip Top Ice Creams.
