Christchurch City Council Media Release Tuesday 6 May 1997

St. Martins Children’s Library Re-opens

After a brief closure for refurbishment, St Martin’s Children’s Library re-opened on Monday 5 May. Features include new shelving, a new issue desk, a repaint, and an automated issue system.

"We are delighted that our customers at St. Martins will not only be able to enjoy a bright new library interior, but also enjoy the speed and convenience of an automated issue system", says Sue Sutherland, Libraries Manager.

A function to celebrate the refurbishment will be held on Wednesday morning at St Martins Library. Approximately 45 guests are expected to attend.

The professional children’s library service, part of the Canterbury Public Library network , has operated since 1974. It is co-located with the St Martin’s adult library service, which commenced in 1927, and continues to be voluntarily operated.
