Barry Cleavin Quiz open to 13-19 years
An original Barry Cleavin etching is the prize for the lucky winner of a competition beginning at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery on 8 June. The quiz has been devised by local printmaker, Barry Cleavin, in conjunction with his exhibition, The Elements of Doubt which opens at the end of this week at the McDougall Art Gallery.
The Quiz is entitled Decoding the Elements of Doubt is ideal for secondary school students and has been based around the prints in the exhibition and printmaking in general. The aim,Cleavin emphasises, is for participants to look at and consider the collection of prints on show in the Gallery. The winner of the etching, Theres two sides to every story (1996), will be notified on 25 July, 1997.
This exhibition made up of 110 prints, adds an extra dimension through the inclusion of several skeletons juxtaposing source and image. The impetus for Cleavins imagery is taken from a variety of sources known, but rarely seen. The Robert McDougall Art Gallery is most grateful to the Auckland, Canterbury and Otago Museums for the loan of skeletons which enable The Elements of Doubt to be not only an exhibition with a purpose, but also one with a difference.
Quiz forms can be collected from the front desk from 8 June. The Elements of Doubts opens 29 May and runs until 13 July.
