Once upon a time there was a goblin, a queen and lots of amazing games.
KidsPlay - at a park near you!
Monday 5 January to Saturday 10 January
A great day of free entertainment for kids is on offer in the new year as part of the Christchurch City Councils SummerTimes festival. After a very successful debut in January 1997, KidsPlay returns to suburban parks in early 1998.
KidsPlay is an opportunity for children to spend a day at their local park with their families participating in two activities tailored for 5 to 12 year olds. The event begins at 10.30am with Mr Moons Amazing Games and continues after lunch with a cushion theatre production from The Court Jesters.
Snakes in the Grass, Sharks and Mushroom are just a few of the games that Mr Moon and his talented team will lead children through. Halfway through the two-hour games session Mr Moon and his team will juggle energising treats for the children donated by Countdown before another hour of games begins. Amazing Games is limited to 200 participants and children under five need an adult to help them play.
After expending their energy with Amazing Games, kids can find a spot in the shade to have their lunch before The Court Jesters begin their cushion theatre production of Stinky the Goblin and the Queen. The play is a fast-paced race against time with loads of crazy action and audience participation.
An interpreter for the hearing impaired will be present at the Burwood Park session of KidsPlay on Thursday 8 January. KidsPlay is a joint effort between the Councils Events Team and Leisure and Community Services Unit. The event is free and kids just need to bring their lunch, a cushion or rug and wear a sunhat and some sunblock.
