Christchurch’s newest festival opens with ‘The First Dance’.

Victoria Square is the venue for the very first event in the new Christchurch Festival of Dance. ‘The First Dance’ will take place from 7.30pm on Friday 26 September and will be an opportunity for the public to have a go at a variety of dance styles in a relaxed atmosphere.

Top local dance band Five have joined forces with Christchurch songstress Nicki Reece to perform a fabulous evening of dance music ranging from waltzes and foxtrots right through to Latin American, rock ‘n’ roll and disco numbers. The band have entertained together in the same location before at the Council’s Valentines Day Dance, however this time the emphasis will be on dancing rather than romancing.

Produced by the Christchurch City Council’s Events Team, ‘The First Dance’ is an ideal ocassion to try out lots of different dance styles during one fun event. Hopefully this taster will encourage participants to take part in some of the many dance workshops offered during the two week festival period.
