EXHIBITION OF ARTS FESTIVAL LAUREATE’S WORK

Manuscripts by well known local award winning writer Margaret Mahy, laureate for this year’s Christchurch Arts Festival, feature in an exhibition at Canterbury Public Library from 17 July - 3 August.

The exhibition, called "The Familiar Made Fabulous: Margaret Mahy’s View from the Port Hills", features a number of Mahy’s titles in both book and manuscript form, and the places which provide the inspiration for their settings. Illustrations by local artist Selina Young also feature in conjunction with the manuscript for a picturebook which is about to be published. Admission is free.

The exhibition is the first event to be held in the relocated and refurbished New Zealand room at Canterbury Public Library. "We are delighted to be staging this exhibition of Margaret Mahy’s work as the premier event for the re-opened New Zealand Collection" said Sue Sutherland, Libraries Manager.

Margaret Mahy has received the Carnegie Medal and the Esther Glen Medal for her writing achievements for children and young adults. These medals and the books which won them are also on display.
