CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHERS DISCUSS CURRENT ISSUES AND PRACTICES IN McDOUGALL ONE-DAY SEMINAR

The Robert McDougall Art Gallery will be running a special seminar for all those interested in the range of modern photography on Saturday, 1 March, 1997 starting at 9.30 a.m. In this one-day seminar a number of leading photographers will discuss their own practices and issues they face in this media.

Seminar presenters come from a wide range of disciplines and specialist interests within the field of photography. Dave Wethey, Illustrations Editor of the Christchurch Press will discuss the issues involved with the daily documentary photography of the news photographer.

Lloyd Park, a leading New Zealand specialist in commercial object filming will also be speaking, as will Murray Hedwig, a photography tutor and art photographer whose focus is often directed to the textures and compositions in the captured world. Margaret Dawson, another speaker at the seminar, is a major post modernist woman artist who has been pushing forward the boundaries of the photograph as unique art work. Also speaking at the seminar is Peter Peryer, an Auckland photographer and major leading artist working with the photographic medium. This seminar is held in conjunction with Fantastic Journey: The Photographs of Arthur Tress which is on at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery from 14 February to 13 April, 1997.

The seminar will be held between 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Y.M.C.A. on Saturday, 1 March. This is a unique experience for all those interested in the photographic medium and for students interested in photography as a career.
