Margaret Murray the Chairperson of the City Centre Marketing Committee of Council is pleased to announce that Christchurch will host the second International City and Town Centres Conference in September 1998.
This is an exciting opportunity for all of Christchurch to show case all our facilities and our vibrant City Centre, said Margaret Murray. Also the Christchurch economy will benefit from the at least 300 delegates visiting our City over the conference.
Councillor Margaret Murray led the team which included Councillors Pat Harrow and Carole Evans to the Conference in Australia in 1996 which pitched for and won this exciting opportunity for the City. The team from Christchurch which included City Centre business representatives lobbied other delegates and sold them on the benefits of holding the next conference here.
The representatives of Christchurch promoted our City extremely well, and did us all credit, said Councillor Murray.
The three day Conference will address city planning issues, encouraging investment in Christchurch, as well as marketing strategies, and issues such as parking. The conference is also being used as the Main Street programme conference and the New Zealand Main Street Association AGM will be part of the agenda.
