SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT BY THE
CHAIRMAN OF THE CENTRAL CITY COMMITTEE

17. CATHEDRAL SQUARE REDEVELOPMENT BUS SHELTERS RR 6767

Officer responsible Authors
Major Projects Co-ordinator Andrew Robinson and Ian McKenzie
Corporate Plan Output: City Streets, Major Amenity Improvements, page 9.5.88

The purpose of this report is to recommend the selection of three Councillors to hear any objections received under section 339 of the Local Government Act for the proposed siting of bus shelters in Cathedral Square.

Businesses and owners of properties adjacent to the new shelters have been advised under both the Resource Management Act and the Local Government Act of the position and appearance of the shelters. Objections have been received under the Resource Management Act, and will be heard by a Commissioner on 12 December.

The final date for lodging objections under the Local Government Act is 14 December, and it is expected that similar objections will be received.

The Council's Legal Services Manager has advised that these matters have to be dealt with separately.

In anticipation of receipt of objections under the Local Government Act, a panel of Councillors has been nominated to hear objections in January or early February 1998. An early hearing date is important to avoid any delay in the progress of roading and paving work in stage 1 of the redevelopment. Stage 1 is due to commence 2 February 1998. A copy of the relevant section of the Local Government Act (section 339) is attached.

Chairman's Recommendation: That a panel of three Councillors (Councillors Buist, Close and Sheriff) be appointed to hear any objections received under section 339 of the Local Government Act.

CONSIDERED THIS 17TH DAY OF DECEMBER 1997

MAYOR
