PROJECTS AND PROPERTY COMMITTEE
1. GENGHIS KHAN EXHIBITION
The Chairman reports: "At the 23 May 1996 meeting of the Museum Trust Board the Museum Director reported that the agents for the Genghis Khan exhibition had agreed to delay the movement of the exhibition to Australia to enable it to be shown from late November to early January in Christchurch. The exhibition will be back-to-back with another major international exhibition "Gargantuans of the Garden" which will put museum staff under pressure. A draft budget was previously submitted by the Art Gallery Manager to the 6 May meeting of the Community Services Committee. It will be recalled that this budget has been examined by the Director of Finance, who has given his opinion that it is appropriate for the Council to support the exhibition as there is a high probability of achieving the projected budget. The Museum Board resolved to agree to stage the Genghis Khan exhibition in the new Exhibitions Court, subject to: 1. Agreement with the agents on a satisfactory contract. 2. Underwriting being provided by the Christchurch City Council similar to that previously proposed in respect of the mounting of the exhibition at the Art Gallery. 3. Assistance from Art Gallery staff (as offered by the Art Gallery Manager) especially during the critical change-over period between exhibitions. 4. Adoption of a business plan by the Museum's Finance Committee." Chairman's
Recommendation: That the Council support the Museum mounting the exhibition and accept the underwriting responsibilities involved. CONSIDERED THIS 7TH DAY OF JUNE 1996
