Local schools celebrate Arbor Day
Pupils from Room 6 at Beckenham plant up a border with shrubs.
A number of schools within the Spreydon-Heathcote wards have, or will be, taking part in the Arbor Day Schools planting programme being co-ordinated by the Parks and Waterways Unit, Christchurch City Council and funded through the Community Board.
All plantings (with the exception of St Peter's School) took place within the school grounds and a lot of fun was had by everyone involved, with many children being given the opportunity to help beautify their school grounds.
Schools involved in the project in the Spreydon-Heathcote area are Beckenham School, Manning Intermediate School, Our Lady of Assumption, Rowley Avenue School, Rudolph Steiner School,Waltham School and West Spreydon School.
St Peter's School was also involved in a separate Arbor Day planting held at Ernle Clark Reserve on Wednesday 6 June 2001 as part of their Learning Experiences Outside the Classroom (LEOTC) programme.
