Funding for local groups

The Community Development Scheme is to provide funding assistance for not-for-profit community organisations and groups working with people in the community.

The scheme is aligned with the Council's "Community Policy", of which the emphasis is on empowering and enabling those who are deprived of power and resources. In the May 2001 funding round, some of the groups to receive funding in Shirley/Papanui were:

  • Delta Community Support Trust - Employment of trained counsellors.
  • Samoan Assembly of God, Shirley Youth Group - Hire of hall for sports/social nights.
  • St Giles Scrabble and Activities Craft Group - Tables and scrabble equipment.
  • Te Ora Hou Otautahi (Inc) - Holiday programmes and camps for young people.
  • The New Friendships Club - Publication of quarterly magazine and purchase of photocopier.
The closing date for the next funding round is 31 August, 2001. To apply, pick up an application form from the Papanui Service Centre. Contact the Community Development Adviser for more information on 354 1708.
