Forum provides chance to air issues

Although it is called the Linwood Forum the people who attend the meetings are not necessarily just from Linwood. It is an opportunity to bring issues to be discussed in an open forum and to come to hear what the issues are for others.

The value of the forum is that not only is it a way to meet others working in the community but it is a chance to debate things that are happening.

It is not expected that we will all be in agreement over every issue but that at least the issue is given a chance to be aired and perhaps some solutions sought.

The minutes of a forum meeting dated 26/7/99 identified the purpose of the forum as networking, identifying needs, sharing information/knowledge, working together, ideas generation, advocacy and policy discussion.

Further clarification of these purposes are contained in those minutes.

Most people who attend the forum have found it useful and informative.

The Christchurch City Council offers a venue and helps with the minutes of the meetings.

The facilitation is shared on a voluntary basis and the success or failure of the forum is dependant on the attendance and input of the community.

The Linwood Forum meets on the first Monday of the month in the board room of the Linwood Service Centre, 180 Smith Street.

The group meets from 10 am until 12 pm.

Usually the first half hour is used as time for a cup of something and a chance to catch up.
