Comment: "We aim to promote the well-being of the residents and encourage a friendly community, and also to preserve and enhance the physical and special characteristics of the Avon Loop.

We have a delightful community cottage which is used for our meetings and social events, is available for hire and has a very good play group operating from it."

Comment: "The Bromley Community Centre is a multi-purpose centre serving the community. Churches, an after school programme, playgroup, arts and crafts, and dancing are some of the activities that happen here."

Comment: "The Mt Pleasant Community Centre & Ratepayers Association ((Inc) serves to foster the growth of community spirit by providing facilities and encouraging local groups participating Iino social, recreational, educational, cultural and other activities. It also serves to carry out any activity which is deemed by the Committee to be of benefit to the Mt Pleasant community, and to act as watchdog on behalf of the community and promote community views to the Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury or any other local authorities.

Linwood Community Arts Centre 388 Worcester Street C/- Lesley McMillan, phone 389 2881 Comment: "Te Whare Roimata is the Community Centre of the Inner City East community and surrounding neighbourhoods. The Centre seeks to develop grass-root, self-help responses to the issues and concerns identified by local residents, with a view to creating a more self-reliant community better able to meet its own needs.

"Te Whare Roimata works from a community development model aimed at encouraging local participation and leadership, strengthening and building a sense of community, and providing a voice for local people. At the heart of Te Whare Roimata is its commitment to bicultural development, Whanau support and social justice. A range of responses, actions and programmes have evolved, Including a neighbourhood outreach and support programme, the Gold Coin Cafe, neighbourhood organic gardens, a playgroup and a welfare advocacy and information service.

"The newest response is the Linwood Community Arts Centre, housed Iino the former Library building on the corner of Worcester Street and Stanmore Road. This project provides opportunities for people on low incomes to gain access to and participate in the Arts. A variety of classes, workshops, and holiday programmes for children are offered by the centre, as well as providing a community dark room, performance space, rental studios, festivals and special art events, and an exhibition gallery.

Advice, support and information on the arts are also available."
