Area Engineer — City Streets Unit

The Area Engineer, Brian Boddy is the Unit’s representative for the Fendalton/Waimairi wards in roading and traffic matters. He is available for site meetings, enquiries into new works, and consultation on any proposal that affects the footpaths, landscaping and/or carriageways that make up our local streetscape and transport system. A main role is traffic safety.

Parks And Waterways Area Advocate — Parks And Waterways Unit

The Parks Unit is responsible for the maintenance and development of parks and reserve areas around the city, including extensive areas long the coastline and Port Hills. Currently there are about 685 individual parks providing a diverse range of recreational opportunities. Parks of all shapes and sizes range from large regional parks such as Bottle Lake Forest and the Groynes, to metropolitan sports parks with club facilities such as Burnside Park, garden parks such as Mona Vale and the Botanic Gardens, to small neighbourhood reserves. The Parks and Waterways Unit has two staff members based at CCC Fendalton covering the Fendalton and Waimairi area. The Parks and Waterways Area Advocate is Gary Harrow and the Contract Supervisor is Ivan Richards. Gary deals with public consultation and enquiries associated with new reserves and new development works on existing parks, while Ivan handles any maintenance issues such as mowing, maintenance of shrub borders, trees and paths etc. Gary and Ivan can be contacted on 941 6708.

Community Recreation Adviser — Leisure Unit

Kate Rathbun is the Leisure Unit’s Community Recreation Adviser based at CCC Fendalton. She is responsible for the Fendalton and Waimairi Wards. The role of a Community Recreation Adviser is diverse, and hard to summarise in a few words. Broadly a Community Recreation Adviser:

  • Initiates local research regarding recreation and arts needs along with planning recreation and arts provision.
  • Plans recreation and arts programmes in the local community
  • Plans and stages community events
  • Reports to the Fendalton/Waimairi Community Board on local Recreation and Arts issues.
  • Works in partnership with community based organisations to deliver locally based recreation and arts programmes/events.
  • Administers the Hillary Commission Community Sport Fund.
  • Works in partnership with the CCC Parks and Waterways Unit on recreation facilities such as skate parks.
