Project and discretionary funding

The community Board is allocated $390,000 per year to fund projecs and groups in Burwood/Pegasus. Of that amount $50,000 is allocated to community worker positions. The allocation list for 2001/02 follows:

Heritage Week — Allocation towards a heritage week project or awards that would raise awareness of the history of the Burwood/Pegasus area $500
Community Car Watch — Assistance with the running and maintenance of car used for community patrols $3,000
Arbor Day — Funding of trees for Arbor Day planting in schools. $1,500
Community Pride Garden Awards — Continuation of the annual community garden competitions and awards. $800
Gigantic Beach Cleanup Project — Continuation of the annual beach cleanup in association with Keep Christchurch Beautiful $500
Clean up the World Project — Supporting encouragement of residents' associations to assist in cleaning up communities $500
Basketball Half Court — Subject to consultation with the community, installation of a half court. Priority order for possible sites for the facility: Fairway Park, Aston Reserve, Cedarwood Park, Thomson Park. $15,000
Horseshoe Lake Plan Project — For a specific project to be identified within Horseshoe Lake Plan $2,000
Pegasus Bay Walkway Drinking Fountain at Broad Park entrance $1,000
Southshore Spit Reserve — Assistance with specific project to be identified within Management Plan $2,000
Cedarwood Park Playground Fencing — To enhance safety of playground adjacent to expressway $3,500
Wainoni Park Playground — Shifting/upgrading of playground $15,000
New Brighton Foreshore Worker —Towards cost of cleaning Pier/foreshore area. $2,500
Bexley Wetland Trust — Installation of an interpretation panel or sign $2,000
Travis Wetland Trust — Installation of an interpretation/education panel $2,000
Carols in the Community $3,000
Family Fishing Day $1,300
Holiday Programme Staging Subsidy $20,000
Holiday Programme Volunteer Leaders Training Subsidy $2,000
Youth Programmes and Events $3,000
Burwood/Pegasus Beach Triathlon $1,500
New Brighton Project — Contribution towards hosting of social, cultural and recreational events in New Brighton $10,000
Aranui Primary School — Construction of a new school/community hall. Further funding to be considered in 2002/03 $10,000
Burwood Christian Centre — Contribution tot provision of youth equipment $3,000
City East Centre — Contribution to provision of youth equipment $6,000
Youth Alive Trust (New Brighton) —Contribution towards Safer Streets project $8,000
Agape Street Ministries (Aranui/Wainoni) — Contribution towards self-esteem enhancement programme at Aranui High School. $3,000
Parklands Energisers Youth Programme — Assistance with Friday night youth programme for 10-14 year olds $5,000
Te Ropu Tamahine/Te Ropu Tamaiti — Assistance with after school programmes at Wainoni and Aranui Primary Schools $6,000
Out of School Programmes — Funding towards programmes at Dallington, North New Brighton, Burwood, Aranui and Parklands $12,000
Waipuna/Hebron Trust (Shirley) — Contribution towards employment of a social worker focussing on needs of young female offenders $1,000
PEEEPS (New Brighton) — Contribution towards salary of manager $10,000
Otautahi Maori Wardens (Nga Hau e Wha) — Contribution towards position of manager/administrator of community services $3,000
Supergrans — Assistance with provision of Nova Sew Sewing Course. $8,000
Anglican Care — Towards the provision of three projects: East Aranui (St Ambrose Hall); St Andrews House North Beach; and Dallington Community Cottage $50,000
Youth Development Fund — A fund for financial assistance for personal development of young people $2,500
Community Response Assistance Fund — Continuation of a seeding and “quick response” fund to support community initiatives that benefit local communities $17,000
Community Development Scheme — Contribution towards metropolitan funding scheme for community development initiatives. $10,000
Neighbourhood Week 2001 — Contribution towards events to be held in Neighbourhood Week in the last week in October 2001 $1,250
Burwood/Pegasus Community Directory — Publication in 2001 $10,000
International Year of the Volunteer — Funding of function and/or a specific project with training focus. $2,000
Aranui Community Renewal Project — Contribution towards funding of Project Co-ordinator and consultation process $13,000
Te Kupenga O Aranui Wrap-around Worker — Continuation of funding towards the Wrap-around Worker's salary $20,000
Community Centres Community Workers — Continuation of funding for community workers to assist with providing activities at the Wainoni/Aranui Family Centre, the Aranui Community Hall and the Ascot Community Centre $30,000
Mature Employment Service Ltd (Aranui) — Contribution towards rent and administration costs $3,000
Community Residents' Association and Hall Management Support — Continuation of contribution towards printing costs of residents' associations newsletters and training of hall management committees on liaison and meeting skills $3,000
North New Brighton Community Centre — Contribution to project for the redevelopment and enhancement of the Centre. Support for consideration of further funding of $25,000 in 2002/03 $25,000
Traffic Speed Board — Annual hire cost for use of traffic speed board trailer $700
TOTAL 2001/02 PROJECT FUNDING ALLOCATED $355,050
