Award Information
The recognition
of outstanding contributions to the built, natural and services to the
environment of the city by individuals, organisations and businesses is
a significant and very practical way of promoting achievement of the city’s
environmental policies. In general terms, the Awards will be based upon
the following:
- The purpose
of the Award is to recognise outstanding contributions to the built
natural or services to the environment of the city.
- In considering
policies and projects for the Award, the Council will take into account:
- the overall
quality of the project or service
- the impact
on the environment
- the degree
of innovation shown
- the permanency
of the proposal or service
- the achievement
of City Plan and the strategic objectives of the Council
- the impact
on the city as a whole
- a positive
impact on the City Council’s infrastructure
- The Award
shall be open to all residents, groups and business operating within
Christchurch City, including public bodies working in partnership with
the community.
- The Award
shall be known as "The City of Christchurch Environmental Award".
- No more than
three Awards shall be made in any one year, except in the year 2000
to mark the 150th anniversary of Canterbury a further six Awards.
- Awards shall
be made by the Council on the recommendation of the Environment Committee
which would be advised by a panel consisting of the Chairman, three
other members of the Committee, the Environmental Policy and Planning
Manager and two external advisers with special interest in the built
and natural environments.
- Each Award
will take the form of a certificate, an engraved medallion and, where
appropriate, a plaque to be placed on the site of the project.
Awards will
recognise outstanding contribution to the city’s built, natural and services
to the environment and by way of example, could include:
- An innovative
suburban housing subdivision
- The conservation
of an area of outstanding natural landscape or ecological importance.
- An excellent
example of inner city housing
- A significant
new road or cycle link or public transport initiative
- The conservation
and reuse of a listed heritage building in an innovative way
- A new initiative
to reduce wastes, conserve water or improve air quality
- A new building
that is outstanding in its site layout and aesthetic design or in its
design to conserve energy
- A significant
new open space or park
- An outstanding
new landscape feature or planting project.
- An outstanding
individual or group contribution to an environmental programme or projects
- An innovative
policy or management document.
- Design for
sustainability
